It's back to basics this weekend in the Mayo League after the divisional cups last weekend.

In the Westro Cup last weekend Castlebar Celtic saw off Claremorris 3-1 in Celtic Park after a tough battle. Celtic keeper Stefan Hester saved a penalty in the first half to ensure the sides went in level at half-time. Jason Hunt put Celtic in front five minutes into the second half, they doubled their lead on 70 minutes through Luke Kelly, and Hunt made it 3-0 five minutes later to seal the win. The visitors did pull one back through Joe Slevin late on, but Celtic had the heavy lifting done at that stage.

That win sets up a clash with Ballyheane in the next round. The league champions booked their passage with a 2-0 win over Kiltimagh-Knock United thanks to a goal in either half from Ben Edeh.

Ballina Town struck five goals against Glenhest Rovers to seal their progress to the next round with Benny Lavelle hitting a hat-trick. Rovers did lead 2-1 at one stage going into the lead 1-0 through a Levi Barrett goal before Stephen Melvin levelled it up. Melvin put Rovers back in front again before Ballina hit them with four goals on the bounce. Lavelle got three of them with Jamie Moyles getting their other goal.

Westport United were 3-1 winners over Straide and Foxford United in Green Road last weekend. James O'Donnell hit the first goal of the day for the visitors from a free kick, Dylan O'Malley then put them 2-0 up with Harrison Quinn making it 3-0 and sealing the win before Chris Downey pulled one back late on for the hosts.

The final game of the weekend in the Westaro Cup saw Manulla see off Ballyhaunis Town 2-0 in Station Rise. Manulla took the lead through an own goal with Tadgh McGinty getting their second of the day. Manulla keeper Jack Livingstone also saved a second half penalty from Ballyhaunis.

There are three games down for decision in the top flight on Saturday night this weekend with two more on Sunday. On Saturday evening at 6.30pm Westport United will be looking to push themselves to the top of the table for at least a few hours when they take on bottom of the table Claremorris in United Park. Ballina Town will look to close the gap on the top sides at the moment when they welcome Glenhest Rovers to Belleek. The final game of the evening will see Straide and Foxford United who are currently in eighth place in the table on five points look to overtake sixth place Kiltimagh-Knock United who are on seven points at the moment when the clash in Green Road.

On Sunday morning Castlebar Celtic, who have two games in hand on most sides in the standings, will look to eat into the gap between themselves and the other sides ahead of them when they host local rivals Manulla in Celtic Park at 11am. The final game of the weekend in the top division will see league leaders and defending champions Ballyheane make the trip to Station Rise to face Ballyhaunis Town.
