Reape looks for refurbishment works on footpaths

Fianna Fáil councillor Annie May Reape put forward a notice of motion before the April meeting of the Ballina Municipal District reading: "Under the Active Travel 2021 allocations, as recently announced, I am asking Ballina MD to include footpath refurbishment works in Childers Heights and Moy Heights. I further ask Ballina MD to include improvement works to the pedestrian crossings at Tolan St/O’Rahilly St/Casement St and Bury St in the Ballina Town Transportation Plan."

Speaking on the motion, she said that she, along with the Cathaoirleach, saw the dangers around the town - having gone around it in a wheelchair as part of Make Way Day and said 'this needs attention'. Responding to Cllr Reape's motion, Treasa Durkin, senior executive engineer with Mayo County Council, said: "Those areas are in the active travel proposal for Ballina and we have already made an application and been told we have funding for those areas, we won't know until we get on site how far the funding will go, but these are the areas that we are looking at."
