The semi-finals of the last major domestic competition of the season are down for decision this weekend when the Calor Gas Super Cup reaches the semi-final stage.
Last weekend Snugboro United, Manulla, Ballina Town and Ballyglass all booked their places in the final four - the draw for the semi-final has pitted Snugboro United against defending champions Ballina Town, with Ballyglass hosting Manulla in a local derby in the other semi-final.
Ballina Town needed a penalty shoot-out to get over newly crowned Super League champions, Castlebar Celtic, after their clash finished in a 3-3 draw - in all, three of the four last eight games needed to go to extra time last weekend. Dylan Edwards bagged two early goals for Ballina Town, but strikes from Jason Hunt and Liam Flatley had the game level at 2-2 at half time. Edwards completed his hat-trick to edge the north Mayo men in front again - but Celtic goal machine, Jordan Loftus, levelled it up at 3-3, sending the game to extra time. There were no more goals in the extra time and Ballina won 4-2, nailing all four spot kicks they took.
The only game that didn't require extra time was the meeting of Ballyglass and Straide and Foxford United - the Keaveney Park side ran out 6-1 winners with Ryan Connolly hitting a hat-trick, Liam Hughes a brace and JP O'Gorman grabbing the other goal in their five-goal victory.
Snugboro United came from two goals down to see off Claremorris in Concannon Park after extra-time in their meeting last week. Cathal Walsh and Oisin Brady had the south Mayo men looking in control. Aaron Curry and Jason Ormsby hit back to level the game up and sent it to extra time. Conor Sloyan and Johnny Walsh were the men to get the goals for the 'Boro to book their place in the last four this weekend.
Manulla came out on the right side of a nine-goal thriller on the road to Swinford to make it into the semi-finals of the competition. The hosts led 2-1 at the break thanks to a Callum Cairns' double, the visitors hit the next three goals of the day though Gary McHale (2 ) and Jesse Devers to go in front before Peter McNicholas and Joe Slevin hit back for Swinford to put them 4-3 in front before Gerry Canavan levelled it up late on to send the game to extra time - where Shea Benson hit a late winner to send his side into the final four.
