Ireland West Airport charity runway run tomorrow

Ireland West Airport, in partnership with Portwest, is set to welcome over 1,000 people to the airport’s runway as they once again host the annual charity 5k runway fun run, tomorrow, Saturday March 30.

Runners and walkers will take-off down the runway at 5pm and complete a 5km course with a difference. All are welcome to attend what promises to be a fantastic evening for all the family, with all proceeds from the runway run going towards the airport's three nominated charities for 2019 – Hope House, Croi and the Jack and Jill Foundation.

This year will be a particularly memorable year for the Runway Run, as it will be the last time a run will take place on the current runway, which is due to be resurfaced in May 2019. The famous runway, which was built in the early 1980s, has welcomed over 10 million passengers and this year's run will be a historic one for those taking part.

To celebrate, there will be a number of prizes on the day for participants to have a chance of winning, including flights to Barcelona, and Bristol and vouchers for a family stay in Hotel Westport.

Prizes include: two return flights to Barcelona for both the top male and female finishers, two return flights to Bristol for both the top u16 boy and girl finishers and €100 accommodation voucher for a family stay in Hotel Westport for both the first u12 boy and girl finishers.

Looking ahead to the event Joe Gilmore, Managing Director, Ireland West Airport said: "We are delighted to once again host what will be our fourth charity runway fun run here at the airport in partnership with Portwest. Last year's event was a huge success with over 1,000 runners and walkers, of all ages, taking to the famous runway here at the airport.

"We are delighted to be working with local business Portwest, as the events' sponsor, and our three charities for 2019, in hosting this fantastic initiative. This year's run will be that extra bit special as it will be the last time we have our Runway Run on the current famous runway, which is due to be resurfaced between May and July, so it will be yet another historic occasion for those taking part. We look forward to making this an enjoyable and memorable experience for all involved this weekend and encourage people of all ages to come down and enjoy a walk or run on our runway and supporting three very worthy charities."

Entry to the event costs €20 per adult and €5 for under-16’s. A special family rate of €40 is available for families of two adults and two children. All participants will receive a special technical race t-shirt and complimentary car parking and refreshments at the airport will be provided on the day. Participants can sign up and find more information at www.irelandwestairport.com/runwayrun The number of participants is restricted so register online to avoid disappointment.
