Home energy savings Midlands seminar and training

Patrick Daly, a leading lecturer and practitioner in building energy efficiency is hosting a series of seminars and training courses in improving energy use in the home.

The seminar and courses are aimed at homeowners seeking to make their home more energy efficient, reduce fuel bills, improve comfort, and improve their building energy rating.

Patrick Daly is the founder director of BESRaC (Built Environment Sustainable Research and Consultancy ) and is one of Ireland’s leading energy and environmental building consultants. His background is founded in architectural technical design and project management coupled with academic research and lecturing. Patrick lectured in this field in the School of Architecture DIT for seven years and holds a Master of Science (Architecture ) in Advanced Energy and Environmental Studies. He is a specialist in low energy building design and building energy refurbishment and is currently completing Ireland’s first zero energy house as features on Duncan Stewart’s RTE show, About the House.

The seminar will be an introduction to energy use in dwellings and will explain what a BER is, basic energy improvement options, and grants available.

The training course will examine similar subjects in more detail including an introduction to insulation and renewable options, case studies, and will take home owners step by step through a home energy audit and for their own home with assigned tasks and improvement options including grant application.

Patrick has seen a growing interest from members of the public in topics such as home energy efficiency, driven in part by fuel prices, concerns with quality of construction, and wider environmental concerns. “People are interested but confused and need independent advice and direction, these seminars and courses are intended to provide people with a direction forward.”

Patrick is also developing courses for builders, contractors, developers, architects, and engineers to support them with additional training as the construction industry moves in an increasingly green direction.

Given the recent Government announcement for insulation and boiler replacement grants, in addition to the existing renewables grants, and the mandatory BER requirements for houses being sold or rented, there is bound to be huge interest in these training courses, which are planned to run over April and May so book early.
