Unique exhibition at Shambles Art Studios

Three members of Shambles Art Studios, at Aras Brid, Excise Street, Athlone, will present an exhibition on September 15 and 16 from 11am to 5pm.

The upcoming exhibition, Loose Women, refers to a loose approach which three artists - Lesley Wingfield, Catherine Rock, and Ann McGuinness - have taken to their work in the last few months.

All painters injected new energy into their painting practices by creating a large number of small scale pieces, many of which are on paper, in a loose, more fluid style. Working with these limitations, each artist has responded in a way which enhances and updates their usual practice.

The result is an exhibition of more than 150 works of art displayed in a fresh and interesting format reflecting this creative approach to image making.

The exhibition will give the audience the opportunity to view and experience new energetic dynamic work in a range of styles and considerations. The pieces are unframed and will be on sale for €50 or less each.

Shambles Studios are an independent studios set up and run by a group of Westmeath artists. The name 'Shambles' derives from the old butchers quarter of Athlone Town where the studios are located.

Throughout the year, open studio events and exhibitions are held in this venue, all of which are part of a continuing programme of activities, which also includes participation in this year’s Culture Night, running on September 22 from 6pm to 9pm.
