Athlone Table Tennis Club

Athlone Table Tennis Club will continue to operate throughout the summer on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7.30pm in St Mary's Hall, Northgate Street. There are eight tables available for use and bats are provided. All are welcome.

Ballinasloe Kinergetics demonstration

Founder of Kinergetics, Philip Rafferty, is coming to Ballinasloe and will be holding clinics in Jorena’s Health and Gift Shop in Society Street, Ballinasloe on Saturday July 23, Saturday August 6, and Friday August 26.

Ballinasloe Library

The new public library in Ballinasloe has been officially opened by cathaoirleach of Galway County Council Peter Roche. The building, which has been in operation since last November, was converted from the old Mercy Convent and Church which was bought by Galway County Council almost a decade ago.

Buccaneers summer camp

Buccaneers Rugby Football Club will hold its annual summer rugby camp this year from Monday, July 18, to Friday, July 22. This summer camp is for boys and girls aged six to 13 years old and will take place from 9.30am to 2.30pm daily at Dubarry Park, Athlone. The camp will be run by Buccaneers' qualified coaches and the cost is €60 (discount for additional family members ) for the five days.

Boys and girls will learn the game of rugby and practise the sport's skills. They will also play fun games and mini rugby matches. Participants will need to bring a packed lunch, drinks, a gum shield, and wet gear.

Castledaly Development and Tidy Towns

In recent weeks amazing work has been done around the old shop, school, and churchyard by cleaning and painting, weather-proofing and tidying. If you are handy with either spade or brush we need your help on Tuesday evenings for an hour. Every helping hand lightens the load.

Castledaly GAA

Congratulations to Anna Sheerin who won first place in the Westmeath Community Games U16 Solo Singing last Friday against some very talented opposition. Well done also to swimmers Rian Claffey and Zack Hickey who returned home with county silver medals after competing against Westmeath's best. Rian came second in the breaststroke while Zack was successful in the backstroke.

Fit Club continues on Tuesdays and Fridays at the GAA grounds, with Junior Fit Club at 6.30pm followed by Seniors under the guidance of Paulette Heavin.

East Galway & Midlands Cancer Support

East Galway and Midlands Cancer Support is holding a free male fitness and health workshop, facilitated by Eilis Ryan, on Saturday, June 25, from 12 noon to 3pm. The event will take place in the charity's centre at Le Chéile, Brackernagh, Ballinasloe. All are welcome. For more details call (090 ) 9642088.

Garrycastle Ladies

The excitement is building with only days to go until the U14s represent Westmeath in the All Ireland Feile. The girls head off to Limerick on Friday morning with their first games staring on Friday afternoon. We would like to wish the girls every success. With a bye in the first round, Thursday, June 23 sees the U12 girls play their first Championship game away to Moate. Next Tuesday, June 28, sees the junior team play Athlone in Páirc Ciarán in the first round of the Junior Championship. With the exam period coming to an end, the U16s get back into competition also in the next fortnight.

IPWD to hold AGM

Independent People with Disabilities will hold their Annual General Meeting in the Prince of Wales Hotel, Athlone on Thursday, July 21 at 7.30pm. Minister for Communications, Energy & Natural Resources Denis Naughten will open the meeting. Guest speaker on the night will be Olivia Lennon from Athlone who has an acquired disability and is currently searching for employment.

Moate Tidy Towns

The Tidy Towns Committee is seeking support in preparing the town for the Pride of Place adjudication on July 14. For the next few weeks they will meet at St Patrick's Church every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7.30-9pm. A programme of work has been organised and the committee would be grateful for any help in its implementation.

Moate Town Park

Support St Hilda’s Services while exercising (gentle warm-up followed by a walk/jog ) in the park every Tuesday and Thursday from 7.30-8.30pm. Participants are invited to contribute €2 a night which will go towards St Hilda’s project in the sensory garden in the park.

St Kieran's Community Centre

Bingo takes place on Tuesday night commencing at 8.30pm.

The centre is now taking names for all computer classes taking place in its adult education room.

A new Irish conversation group is taking place on Wednesday at 10.30am.

Irish dancing is on Thursday from 5.30-6:30pm. Irish dance classes take place every Thursday evening for beginners from 4.30-6.30pm.

The Active Age Group is on a break for the summer and will resume on Wednesday, September 7 from 10am-12pm.

The Tumble Tots parent and toddler group will take a break for the summer period on June 29 and will resume on Tuesday, September 6 at 10am.

St Kieran's is now enrolling for the September 2016 free two-year Government ECCE initiative.

Tai Chi takes place on Wednesday from 6.30-7.30pm and from 7.40-8.45pm.

An NA Support Group meets on Wednesday and Friday from 8pm.

The Aware Support Group for Athlone come together on Thursday at 8pm.

An AA Support Group takes place on Sundays at 12pm.

The knitting/crochet group is on Monday nights at 7pm. Come along and share your creative ideas!

Tuar Ard upcoming events

Incanted Song an evening of poetry and music with Anne Gaffney and Martin O’Hara runs this Friday, June 24 at 8pm. Tickets are €10.

Phil Vassar is in concert with The Sheerin Family Band on Tuesday, June 28 at 8pm. Tickets are €18.

Uisneach, an exhibition by artist Sheila Martin, is on display in the Bob Traynor Gallery for the summer months.

Tubberclair GAA

The walking/running group continues every Monday @7.30pm at the GAA Clubhouse. Everyone in the community is welcome to attend.
