Clonkill lock horns with Oulart the Ballagh in Leinster SHC semi-final

An interesting Leinster SHC semi-final is scheduled for Cusack Park on Sunday afternoon when Clonkill face Oulart the Ballagh.

Clonkill have enjoyed a couple of splendid victories claiming the Westmeath title with an assured success over Raharney. Then in the provincial quarter-final Clonkill delivered an efficient display to easily defeat St Martin’s at Netwatch Cullen Park.

That 4-9 to 0-9 win over the Carlow champions showed Clonkill’s potential as Brendan Murtagh and Niall Dowdall were immense. Murtagh and Dowdall combined to score four goals for Clonkill, who know that Oulart the Ballagh will provide a stern test.

Oulart the Ballagh had to demonstrate plenty of resolve when defeating Laois outfit Clough-Ballacolla by 3-8 to 0-13 on November 1 at O’Moore Park.

Murtha Doyle, Rory Jacob, and David Redmond all bagged goals for Oulart the Ballagh in that triumph, but a late Clough-Ballacolla rally was nearly rewarded with a shock victory. Keith Rossiter, Garrett Sinnott, Jacob, and Redmond are some of the familiar names in the Oulart the Ballagh set-up so Clonkill know that only a dynamic display will suffice.

On Sunday Athlone are involved in the Leinster Intermediate Football Championship semi-final clash against Wexford’s Glynn Barntown.

Athlone have been in excellent form and will be hoping that Damien Kelly, Fergal Murray, Noel Mulligan, Paul Bannon, Ray Connellan, and John Connellan can guide them into the decider.
