Charity Lenten Slimathon in aid of MS Ireland launched by Joe McCaul

This year’s Lenten Slimathon in association with Sheraton Fitness Athlone will be in aid of charity MS Ireland along with other local charities and initiatives.

The event was launched by local well-known performer Joe McCaul who was recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.

Speaking at the launch, organiser Cllr Aengus O’Rourke said, “This is our third biennial slimathon and we hope it is as successful as our previous two events in 2010 and 2012. We are asking people to commit to losing weight over the six weeks of Lent and to raise money at the same time for very worthy causes.”

Participants will get six weeks free membership to Sheraton Fitness Health and Leisure Complex, while at the same time they will receive professional advice and support from the staff at Sheraton Fitness. A tailored plan will be developed for each individual participant for the six week period.

All monies raised through the slimathon are going straight to MS Ireland, South Westmeath Hospice, Battery Heights Family Resource Centre, Athlone GAA Youth Development, and Moate and Midlands Dog Rescue Centre. The two main sponsors are Snap Printing and Sheraton Fitness Health and Leisure Complex, both of whom are giving their services completely free.

Registration for the Lenten Slimathon 2014 takes place on Thursday February 27 from 7pm in the Sheraton Athlone Hotel. A registration fee of €10 applies to each participant. All participants will have access to six weeks free membership of the Sheraton with professional tuition. To pre-register, text your name and address to (086 ) 2288720.
