Bower students prepare to stage Fame the musical

Rehearsals for Our Lady’s Bower’s 2014 musical are already under way since the beginning of term. There are 90 transition year students involved in this ambitious production directed by Aishling Withers.

Fame is set in the New York City High School for the Performing Arts, where students get specialised training that often leads to success as actors, singers, or dancers. This movie follows four students from the time they audition to get into the school, right through to graduation. The show will feature Aisling Golden as Carmen Diaz, Emma Haran as Iris Kelly, Eimer Foxe as Nick Piazza, Tilly Stanley as Serena Katz, Shauna Fogarty as Joe Vegas, Stacey Salome as Tyrone Jackson, and Muirenn Lyons as Mabel Washington. The musical will take place in the Dean Crowe Theatre at 8pm on February 12, 13, and 14.

Meanwhile a separate group of TY students are rehearsing a one act play with Suzi Hogan. Their version of Snow White and the One Dwarf will compete in the Briery Gap Drama Festival for transition year students. The regional competition will be held in Mullingar on January 29.

Last year Suzi won the award for best director and her play was first in the regional finals and third at national level.
