Cllr Keogh welcomes commitment to improve Old Tuam Road

Roscommon County Council has committed to improving the Old Tuam Road in Monksland this year by resurfacing the road and upgrading footpaths and lighting.

Monksland resident Cllr John Keogh has welcomed the commitment to upgrade the busy road in the coming year.

“I am pleased that there will be progress in 2014 in relation to the Old Tuam Road in Monksland. I have been actively campaigning to have the road improved since I got elected in 2009... whilst it is taking a long time, at least works will commence at some stage in 2014,” said Cllr Keogh.

“Plans have been drawn up to improve the road with footpaths, lighting, and the resurfacing of the road. It is likely that the work will commence later in the year but I will be applying as much pressure as possible to have the work commenced before the summer months.

“The road in question remains a health and safety issue, with many pedestrians at risk of getting hit by passing motor vehicles, both during the day and at night time.”
