Fortunate Caulry can make most of replay

Caulry produced a dramatic late comeback last weekend against an impressive Ballynacargy to take this intermediate semi-final to a replay. Bal led throughout and were five points to the good as the game ticked towards injury time. Substitute Rob Hickey goaled to throw the men from south of the county a lifeline and David Brookes chipped over two late points to secure an unlikely draw.

The sides must do it all over again this Saturday to see who progresses to meet St Malachy’s in the intermediate decider. Caulry will have to do without the services of the injured Damien Dolan and he will be a big loss.

Yet Francie Grehan’s side will, I feel, learn most from the drawn encounter and are open to improvement. The nature of their comeback will give them confidence and I expect them to be more tuned-in from the start on Saturday.

Bal are serious contenders and will not go down without a fight but I have a feeling they will rue taking their foot off the pedal in the closing minutes last week.
