Westmeath students win top prizes in Texaco art competition

Five Westmeath students have won top prizes in this year’s 59th Texaco Children’s Art Competition.

In the 9-11 years age category, third prize of €150 was won by 11-year-old Oisín Johnston, from Oliver Plunkett Boys National School, Moate, for his work entitled ‘The Lonely Duck’.

Other Westmeath winners, all of whom won Special Merit Awards, are Anastasia Solomonenko (18 ), from St. Joseph’s College, Athlone; Abigail Johnston (6 ), a pupil at St Colman’s National School, Mullingar; Gabriela Wilczek (6 ), from St Paul’s National School, Athlone; and Áine Broderick (5 ), from Moate.

Prizes will be presented at an awards ceremony in Dublin next month when all of the 126 top prize-winners will be in attendance.

The competition, which attracted entries from all of the 32 counties, will celebrate its 60th anniversary next year.
