South Westmeath gets ready to celebrate Culture Night

The third Westmeath Culture Night will take place on September 21 with an array of events planned for Athlone and the surrounding areas.

In Athlone members of the public are invited to praticipate in the making of a pop-up exhibition with Paul Timoney at Abbey Road Artists’ Studios; Castle Writers Group will present an hour of prose and poetry reading at Athlone Library; while Athlone Women’s Forum will host the exhibition Bring Africa to Ireland at The African Connection.

The Gateway Project, St Mary’s Hall will present an art exhibition of collaborative work by young artists. Viking Tours has organised a river sailing with historical and environmental talk by Michael McDonnell, this which depart from the rear of the Castle.

Did you ever want to see what working artists get up to? The Making Space Collective are inviting members of the public into their studio at 15 Custume Place.

If you’re looking for something for all the family Coosan Community Games Cultural Corner Group will present a surprise sketch followed by traditional music in the Passionfruit Theatre and an Irish Polish evening will be held in the Radisson Blu Hotel at 7pm.

Athlone Literary Festival will present an interview with artist Phyllis del Vecchio in Athlone Little Theatre at 8pm.

Events taking place in Moate during include and art trail around thtown. Art Trail...A Trip & Skip Around Town will incorporate painting, textiles, photography, as well as digital, visual, and audio media is different locations around the town. Pop into the Carmelite Pastoral Centre, The Pantry, Moate Library, Galvin’s Shop, Studio 93 Arches, Tuar Ard Arts Centre, Doe’s Pizza, McCormack’s, and Dun na Sí heritage centre.

An exhibition of Junk Kouture - Recycled Fashion by Moate Community School Transition Year students and paintings by Dominique Foley, will be on show at the Bob Traynor Gallery, Tuar Ard Arts Centre. While Dun na Si Heritage Centre will have a display of sculptural work for Midlands Amenity Park by Transition Year students of Moate Community School in conjunction with artist Patsy Preston.

An opportunity to view the sights and plans for the forthcoming Midlands Amenity Park will also be available at Dun na Si. There will also be an open evening in Moate Museum at the Courthouse. All Ireland Scor Recitation winner will host a night of poetry and recitation.
