More permanent job needed on Castledaly roads

Local Fine Gael councillor John Dolan last week welcomed the improvements which have been carried out on the roads in the Castledaly area over the past number of weeks; however he says a “more permanent job” needs to be done.

“I welcome the works that Westmeath County Council has done in the general Castledaly area. This area has taken a pounding from traffic for the new road construction and from various diversions from the N62. The R444 was literally crumbling at the edges, while several byroads were definitely the worse for wear,” said Cllr Dolan.

The councillor says he believes the repairs to the R444 are only a “temporary solution” to the condition of the road. “I have sought assurances that a more permanent job will be done in the near future. It is only right that these roads should be restored properly as was promised, as the people of the Castledaly area have put up with second class roads for long enough,” he concluded.
