Man charged with growing €3,000 worth of cannabis plants

An Athlone man charged with operating a cannabis growing factory with plants estimated to have a potential street value of €3,000, has been remanded on continuing bail.

Camillus Greene (32 ) with an address at Ballyline, Curraghboy, Athlone, Co Roscommon, appeared at Galway District Court on Monday charged with possession of cannabis and with cultivating, without a licence, cannabis plants at a house in Manor Court, Knocknacarra, Galway, on May 22, 2011, contrary to Section 17 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

The court heard that the Director of Public Prosecutions has consented to the matter being dealt with summarily in the District Court and that the cannabis plants in question would have been valued at €3,000 once maturity was reached.

Judge Mary Fahy accepted jurisdiction in the matter and remanded Greene on continuing bail to appear again at Galway District Court on November 7 for mention.
