Waltzers take to dance floors this weekend

Heats for the 2011 waltzing competition, which forms part of the Athlone Agri-Show, are being held across Westmeath, Offaly, Roscommon, and Longford.

The grand final of the waltzing competition will take place in the Athlone GAA centre on Saturday June 18. The various heats remaining before the finals on June 18 include Tom’s Tavern, Ferbane; Dr Cuppaiges, Moate; Maghera Pub; and Athlone GAA, all taking place this Sunday June 12.

A large crowd is expected at Maghera this Sunday, where the overall winners on the night will be awarded the Elizabeth Murray Perpetual Cup.

If you are interested in taking part or simply want to watch the best dancers in the Midlands, drop into the various venues for a great night out. For more information contact Mary on (087 ) 2357557.

Make sure to keep your diaries free for this year’s Athlone Agri-Show which takes place on June 26. It is hoped that this year’s show will be even bigger than last year, with new attractions such as Made in the Midlands, Quirky Cake Competition, Foraging Walk, and Vintage Thrashing to name but a few.
