Fox goes Black

Congratulations to Paul Fox from the Athlone Taekwon-Do School who received his Black Belt last weekend after an 18-year martial arts odyssey. Paul was put through his paces by Senior Master Anthony Phelan (8th degree ) at the Republic of Ireland Taekwon-Do Association’s second biannual black belt exam in Dublin. The martial artist originally started training in Bray in 1990 and took a scenic route through several Taekwon-Do schools before settling in Athlone in 2005.

“I’m very proud of Paul and what he has achieved,” said his instructor Master Robert Howard (7th degree ). ”He has been training very hard for the last year and a half to reach this point, and has overcome many obstacles to reach his personal goal. Overcoming setbacks and seeing yourself improve both physically and as a person is what Taekwon-Do is all about,” he added.

Paul, who now lives in Roscommon town, will now join Athlone Taekwon-Do School’s teaching team and will pass on his skills to the other members of the school.

The school trains at the Athlone Regional Sports Centre on Fridays from 7.30-8.30 pm and Saturdays from 10am-1pm.
