A touch of old soul from rising stars

Yngve and the Innocent have been slowly raising their profile for the last couple of years, and come to The Stables, Mullingar on Saturday April 17. They bring with them support from Midlands’ bands Arrow in the Sky and James O'Connor with Audrey Trainor.

German-born and Irish-raised, Yngve Wieland has been simmering under the skin of the music industry since 2004. Growing up in rural Sligo in the 80s his dad’s weekly blues sessions fuelled his interest in music. Fast-forward to adulthood and young Yngve has, amongst various headline appearances, shared bills with Jape, Katell Keineg, Nina Hynes, and Paul Weller, and has now released his debut full-length album.

Since moving to London, Yngve has been busy rehearsing and gigging, with new band members ( including Ned Cartwright and his brother Demian Wieland ) coming on board.

Themes of childhood innocence, love, and loss of both are evident throughout his music. The faint aroma of melancholia lingers...and at times Yngve seems like a very young old soul. He can be quite introspective, and occasionally cynical, but despite the thread of loss running through the songs, we are left with essentially uplifting melodies which warm the soul.

Yngve will be supported on the night by Arrow in the Sky and James O'Connor with Audrey Trainor.

Towards the end of 2008, three stalwart musicians came together to try out some new material on each other. The result was as unexpected as it was welcomed.

A couple of jam sessions later, Conor, Shayne, and Brian decided to try out this new material in front of a live audience. With just three songs to their name and under the moniker Arrow in the Sky, they took to the stage at a local singer songwriter night. The audience reacted the same way they had.

Since those hectic early days, the trio have been busy writing, rehearsing, recording, and playing shows. They have supported the likes of Mark Geary, Colm Lynch, and Villagers.

Arrow in the Sky have been compared to Fleetwood Mac, Turin Brakes, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Simon and Garfunkel. Yet listening to Arrow in the Sky is like listening to a new genre of music. Blending what has influenced them with their own individual styles to create a fresh take on folk/rock.

James O’Connor, a 23-year-old musician from Laois, has been writing songs for the last number of years. After teaming up with Audrey Trainor, a classically trained violinist and music lecturer from Omeath in County Louth, they have been performing all around Ireland, the UK, and the USA.
