New polling booth for Monksland welcome – Cllr Naughten

Cllr John Naughten has welcomed the news that a polling booth will be made available in the Monksland area for all elections and referenda after the referendum on the Lisbon Treaty.

“I have been in contact with the County Registrar’s office and have been informed that following representations from residents in the area, a polling booth will be made available in Monksland due to the large population in the area. While they will not be in a position to have this in the place for the referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, the booth will be provided for all subsequent elections and referenda.

“This is something the residents in the area have been seeking for some time and we have consistently made this case based on the last census figures and the significant increase in numbers on the electoral register. I very much welcome this decision as it is something that has been sought for some time.”
