Lily Ring (18 ), with an address in Thornbury Drive, Willow Park in Athlone was in the District Court facing six charges of theft from an alleged spree around the Golden Island area on July 25.

Ring has been charged with the theft of €72 worth of stationery from Cormicans and €88 from Birthdays, a €5 iron from Tesco, €85 worth of DVDs from Xtravision, and €1,625 worth of jewellery from Wallaces.

She then went up to Church Street where she is alleged to have taken €10 worth of groceries from Centra.

Her solicitor Mr Tony McLynn sought bail for his client but the gardai opposed this. Judge John Neilan decided to grant her bail, but on condition she is banned from all shops in court district nine. This includes Athlone, Mullingar, Longford, and Tullamore.

“If any shopkeepers ring the Guards to say you’re on the premises, you will have your bail revoked and you’ll go to jail,” said the judge before remanding her on continuing bail until September 23.
