ALDI receives planning permission for construction of new store in Moate

Up to 30 permanent jobs to be created upon opening in 2025

ALDI Ireland has confirmed that it is set to open a new €6.8 million store to be located in Moate.

ALDI is aiming to open the store in 2025, creating up to 30 permanent jobs, with up to 50 jobs supported during the construction period.

Once open, the 1,315sqm store will feature ALDI’s award-winning Project Fresh layout. There will be 117 car parking spaces available for customers and 13 bike parking spaces.

ALDI will also be investing in the future of Moate through the provision of four electric vehicle charging points, while the store will be powered by 100% green electricity and will feature 245 solar panels on the roof.

“We are delighted to announce that we have been granted planning permission for a new ALDI store in Moate. We are looking forward to contributing to the local economy by adding up to 30 permanent jobs, as well as offering customers the best value in the market,” Colin Breslin, Managing Director of Buying and Services, ALDI Ireland, said.

To date, ALDI’s Westmeath stores have donated over 50,000 meals to local charities through FoodCloud, saving the charities nearly €63,500. Each store is also part of ALDI’s Community Grants network, with Westmeath SPCA and KS Food Appeal some of the many local charities that have availed of the €500 bursary grant in recent years.

ALDI partners with innovative food and drink producers in Westmeath including Athlone Confectionary Ltd and Quality Irish Food Ltd and is committed to growing its Irish supply base further and increasing the number of Irish products available in its stores. ALDI spent €1.1BN with its Irish suppliers in 2022 and is currently working with over 330 Irish food and drink producers.

Welcoming the planning permission news, local Fine Gael councillor, John Dolan, stated that the construction of a new ALDI store in Moate will add to the existing retail vibrancy within the market town.

“This is certainly great news for the town of Moate. I welcome this imminent development which can only enhance the town and provide extra employment opportunities for the local community.

“Moate already has a vibrant retail offering complete with a vast selection of local shops. This development will entice more shoppers to the town which should have an added positive effect for all businesses within the town,” Cllr Dolan concluded.
