Championship and league double for Southern Gaels Under 17 players and management

Cullion/Delvin 1-13

Southern Gaels added the championship crown to their league title in an exciting and epic game that went to extra time before the sides could be separated.

The eventual winners came from six points adrift with eight minutes remaining to force this final fixture into extra time. It is the club’s third title in four years and due reward for the efforts of the players and mentors throughout the year.

Intermediate Championship

Southern Gaels 3-13 Raharney 3-13

An injury time goal from Fionn Dowd gave Southern Gaels a share of the spoils in this breathtaking encounter and secured Gaels a place in the semi-final against Castletown Geoghegan. Little separated the teams throughout, both sides showing excellent scoring technique and defensive qualities.

Camogie

The club’s Under 14 side play in the Shield Final on Sunday, September 17, against St Oliver Plunkett’s in Castletown Geoghegan, throw in at 12pm. This will be the club’s first ever final and a large group of supporters is expected to travel to urge on the side.

Go Games

On Saturday last, Southern Gaels juveniles travelled to Ringtown to play in the Under 7, 9 and 11 Go Games blitz.

Each side fielded one team and had a wonderful day playing excellent hurling in bright sunshine. Other teams involved were Ringtown, St Vincents, Fr Daltons and Crookedwood. Each side played three games and enjoyed a great day of hurling. Thanks to all the parents who travelled on the day.

Under 13

The club’s Under 13 side face Raharney in the Division 2 semi-final on Sunday, September 17, in Pairc Chiarain Athlone, throw in at 1pm. They have already defeated Raharney in the group match and hopes are high they will reach the final.

Under 19

This team suffered a heavy defeat by St Oliver Plunketts in their last Division 2 championship group game but they have still qualified for the semi-final to be played later this month.
