Six looks like being a really good number around the club at the moment as half a dozen young Buccaneers players have been selected to play for Ireland in the 2023 Atlantic Youth Touch Rugby Cup in Nottingham later this month.

John and Philip Finnan and Niamh Purtill are in the Mixed U15 squad for the second time, having played in France last season. This year they will be joined by Molly Copelin and Alex Connor which is a remarkable achievement for these two debutants as they have been playing for less than a year!

Aoife Purtill is named on the Mixed U18 side moving up from the U15s of last season while an honourable mention goes to Aoibhinn Tynan who is very unfortunate to miss out on selection. We wish all the best to the three girls and three guys in their respective tournaments.

Six Try Conroy Propels Ireland to Olympics

Ireland Sevens won European Gold and, with it, qualification for next year’s Olympic Games in France. They won all their matches in convincing style in this tournament in Poland with Buccaneers player Jordan Conroy scoring six tries, including two in the vital 26-12 final win over strong rivals Great Britain.

This success means that the men’s squad have now qualified for back-to-back Olympic Games and they will be joined in Paris next year by the women’s squad who will be making their debut at the Olympics. Jordan and his teammates now have a year to prepare for the Games and we wish them continued success.
