Westmeath County Council seeking Civil War ceremony expressions of public interest

Westmeath County Council is seeking expressions of interest from members of the public who are close relatives of those directly impacted by the Civil War and who would like to attend a state ceremony in the Garden of Remembrance in Dublin on Sunday, May 28.

This is a formal ceremony for a healing moment of reconciliation, remembering everyone who lost their lives in the Civil War.

This commemoration will be televised and available for widespread viewing.

The focus of this commemoration is on those who were most impacted by the events of the civil war and only five attendees can be selected for Westmeath. Therefore, these invitations are particularly intended for close relatives of the families most affected by local events. Please be mindful that this is an outdoor ceremony.

Expressions of interest to [email protected] must be received by April 24 at 12pm.

Where the expressions of interest exceed the places available, nominees will then be chosen by the local authority at random or to broadly reflect all sides of the Civil War period.
