Local Sinn Féin Deputies appointed to new frontbench positions

New political positions await two local Sinn Féin Deputies following a frontbench reshuffle this week by party leader, Mary Lou McDonald.

Longford/Westmeath Deputy, Sorca Clarke, makes her initial frontbench presence having been appointed as party spokesperson for Education, while Roscommon/Galway Deputy, Claire Kerrane, will fulfil the role of party spokesperson for Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

Deputy Clarke previously held the Defence portfolio within the party, shadowing a Government junior minister, while Deputy Kerrane, formerly held the post of party spokesperson on Social Protection and Rural Development.

“This is the team that will lead Sinn Féin into the next General Election, a team full of talent, experience and ambition and bursting with the energy to deliver; a team that is ready to deliver change in government.

“As we enter the last quarter of this government, it is clear that Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil are out of ideas and out of ambition. The longer they remain in office the more damage they will do. That is why we need change and a General Election as soon as possible,” Deputy McDonald stated, upon the frontbench reshuffle announcement.
