Gertie Browne’s Bar reopens following weekend fire at popular licensed premises

Gertie Browne’s Bar reopened on Wednesday afternoon following a weekend fire which caused smoke damage to the popular Athlone licensed premises.

Two units of Athlone Fire Brigade attended the scene of the fire at Custume Place which started at approximately 4.10am on Sunday morning last.

In a message posted on the Gertie Browne’s Bar & Bistro Facebook page on Sunday morning, the owners of Gertie Brownes, Peter Scully and Alan Conroy, thanked Athlone Fire Station, An Garda Siochana and their neighours and friends who responded swiftly to the weekend fire and said they would be closed “for the coming days to treat smoke damage”.

As Gertie Browne’s Bar reopens in advance of the St Patrick’s Day weekend celebrations, the owners confirmed that Hatter’s Lane Bistro will remain closed for the interim, undergoing essential maintenance in the kitchen following the impact of smoke damage to the area.
