Spunout, in partnership with Pluto The Agency, has launched their innovative BeReal With How You Feel campaign. spunout is the first ever organisation in Ireland to use the BeReal app as a communications tool, as they aim to showcase positive uses of social media for young people’s mental health.

Alternative social media app BeReal provides the opportunity to connect with friends in a realistic and authentic way. In a first of its kind campaign, spunout are asking young people to use their daily BeReal moment to be honest with their friends about how they’re feeling, creating deeper connections amongst friends without the filters, glitz and glam of typical social media.

Once a day, BeReal notifies all users that it’s time to post on the app, with a two minute timer on the clock. BeReal is an alternative to the hyper-curated social media we’re used to. No getting the perfect shot, these photos are rough and ready to show and tell what you’re up to.

BeReal has had 28 million downloads since its launch, with 74.5% downloads of the app taking place this year, an increase of 300% monthly active users. spunout is the first organisation in Ireland to leverage BeReal to encourage conversations about mental health and promote a healthier usage of social media amongst 16 to 25 year olds.

spunout are asking young people to use their daily BeReal moment to be honest with friends about their feelings, connecting youth in Ireland so that they feel less alone.

Ahead of the launch, spunout’s Mental Health Editor, Dr. Joseph Morning said: ‘As a leading youth mental health charity, we understand the importance of communicating with young people, where they communicate with each other. That’s why we’ve decided to launch the BeReal With How You Feel campaign to address the hyper-curated lives seen across other social media platforms, which can negatively impact young people’s mental health’.

The integrated campaign will live primarily on the BeReal app, and be supported by influencers across Instagram and TikTok, including the phenomenally popular content creators Caoimhe Byrne (@therealcraic ) and James Doyle (@jamesdoylefitness ).

The BeReal With How You Feel campaign also links to spunout’s well known sister service, 50808. spunout has supported young people’s mental health through 50808, a free, confidential, 24/7 text support service providing anything from a calming chat to immediate support during a personal crisis.

When it’s time to BeReal this week, spunout and Pluto The Agency are asking users to BeReal With How You Feel and encourage friends to do the same. When the BeReal notification pops up, post immediately and use the caption to say, honestly, how you feel.

Good, bad, happy or sad, make sure to share, open up, listen and talk. And make sure to tag #BeRealWithHowYouFeel.
