January playing action returns to the Athlone Golf Club fairways

The Christmas Open Competitions concluded on Monday last with all outstanding results in next week’s Athlone Advertiser.

The Ladies are back in action after their Christmas break with their 12 holes weekly competition.

The 97 Club will resume on Thursday while the Wednesday golfers are taking another seven days rest before resuming play on January 13.

Kevin’s ‘Better-the- Score’ competition tees off this Saturday, January 8, and the qualifying stages will run all the way up to March 16 with the grand pla-yoff taking place on St Patrick’s Day. The conditions of entry are being finalised by Kevin and these will be available in the Pro Shop.

Winter League Update

The leading 10 teams in the Winter League as of January 1 are - Frankie Donnelly 469 pts; Gerard Rowlands 459 pts; John Barry 450 pts; Eamon Kenny 448 pts; Sean Cleary 435 pts; Derek Kenna 433 pts; Adrian Kelly 427 pts; Colm Cummins 426 pts; Pat Carolan 415 pts; Paul Hunter 406 pts.

Teams have until January 31 to complete their six rounds so we will see plenty of positions changing.
