Toyota premieres the bZ4X model - their first all-electric car

Toyota has unveiled their first all-electric car, the new bZ4X. The SUV is the first model in their new series of bZ (beyond Zero ) battery electric vehicles (BEVs ).

The European premier will take place in early December, and Irish motorists should be able to test drive the new zero emissions bZ4X at their dealerships from May 2022.

Toyota says that it blends dynamic SUV design, genuine all-wheel-drive capability, and it claims that it have a range of more than 450 kms.

With the introduction of the bZ4X Toyota says that it’s multi-technology approach to meet different mobility requirements is strengthened by offering customers a full line-up of electrified vehicles, including hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicles. Toyota adds that it aims to reduce CO2 with products that are easy to use and have strong customer appeal, and these technologies will together help deliver the goal of carbon neutrality.

The new bZ4X is the first car to be built on the company’s new BEV dedicated platform. Based on e-TNGA philosophy, this has been co-developed by Toyota and Subaru. Incorporating the battery unit as an integral part of the chassis, beneath the vehicle floor, this gives the fundamental benefits of a low centre of gravity, excellent front/rear weight balance and high body rigidity for exceptional safety, ride and handling.

Toyota says that the bZ4X is a spacious, comfortable SUV, available with a new all-wheel drive system that it claims provides class-leading off-road handling and performance with separate electric motors for each axle.

Toyota boasts that its clean, sleek, and powerful exterior design reflects both its advanced BEV qualities and SUV status and its long wheelbase provides excellent accommodation in a light and open five-seat cabin, with generous load capacity.

Toyota claims that the lithium-ion unit which powers the bZ4X, will after 10 years of driving, be expected to still operate at 90 per cent of its original performance.

With a fully charged battery, Toyota expects the range will be more than 450 km, depending on version, and that data is not available at this time.

The Japanese carmaker says that the bZ4X will also offer advanced technology features, including a third generation Toyota Safety Sense with new and improved active safety and driver assistance systems.
