Midlands based Polish community spread traditional festive spirit

In keeping with annual festive tradition, the Midlands Polish community spread Christmas gift joy to those in need in recent times.

December 6 is a date synonymous with the gift of giving in Poland and staying with charitable custom, representatives of the Midlands Polish community prepared and donated small festive presents - a tradition formally known as ‘Little Santa’ – Mee-Ko-Why-Kee.

With support from the Polish Embassy in Dublin and from local businesses and shops, 200 boxes full of sweets and Christmas crackers were made by Vice-Chairperson, Wojtek and his helpful elves, wife Anna and daughter Zosia.

One hundred boxes were donated to Midlands Simon Community, 20 to Esker House Athlone, 30 to St Teresa’s Special School, Ballinasloe and 50 to Women’s Link in Longford.

Private sponsors greatly assisted the tradition, while Polish and Irish grocery shops and other businesses kindly donated sweets and Christmas cards that were put inside the boxes.

The aim of this initiative was to start celebration of Christmas season of charity and compassion and to put smiles on children’s faces.
