Athlone Boat Club wholesome in its support of Benson-Gately brother’s cause

This calendar year continues to be extremely busy for Athlone Boat Club as progress continues on construction of the new state of the art clubhouse along the backs of the River Shannon.

With 2021 looming, excitement is building as the club looks forward to the completion of this development project and the boost its conclusion will be for Athlone’s oldest sporting organisation.

As a sporting organisation which supports matters community, Athlone Boat Club, under the suggestion of club member, Sinead Hensey, are wholesome in their support of brothers, Noah (6 ) and Rowan (4 ) Benson-Gately, who were both diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD ), a rare genetic disease.

In a bid to help the family raise awareness of the disease and essential funding for the cause, Athlone Boat Club named a boat in honour of the brothers detailing their GoFundMe address.

Boat naming is a long standing tradition at the club and owing to regatta participation all over Ireland, from Dublin to Galway and Cork to Belfast, this will enable the maximisation of national support in the coming times.
