Buccaneers playing statistics as season prematurely halted

With the early cessation of activity across the suite of AIL divisions due to the impact of COVID-19, Buccaneers were placed sixth in the league table, having attained 26 points from their thirteen competitive fixtures played in the campaign.

Ross Murphy-Sweeney was Buccaneers leading try scorer on four five pointers, while Luke Carty was the Pirates top scorer with 58 points

Buccs earned 2 points per Energia All-Ireland League Division 1B match with the lack of an out and out try poacher proving detrimental to promotion ambitions.

Jordan Conroy notched 18 tries in 14 matches as Buccaneers gained promotion to Division 1A a couple of seasons ago, but unfortunately, his firepower has not been replaced.

An ace try scorer is crucial as Val McDermott’s 19 tries for Old Crescent had the Limerick club in the promotion hunt in this season’s 1B league table. Indeed, he scored both home and away against the Athlone club with his touchdowns proving decisive in narrow two and three point victories respectively.

AGM

Buccaneers RFC Annual General Meeting will not take place as usually in May due to current pandemic. Various options including online version are being considered and all paid-up members will be advised shortly.

Tag Rugby

Rugby, due to its physical nature, looks like it will be one of the last sports to resume playing when the pandemic lockdown recedes. However, it is possible that the Tag version can get under way much earlier. That being so, Buccaneers Tag League will hopefully take place some time this summer. Entry details including registration can be found on www.irfu.ie website.

Launderette

A self-service launderette, where you can wash and dry your laundry including team kits, is now open in the car park at Dubarry Park.

Pitches out of bounds

Club members are reminded that in line with the Government lockdown and IRFU directive, no rugby activity including training may take place on the club’s pitches due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Stay home and keep safe.
