Beat the recession blues with Boxercise

For years people have entered boxing gyms to improve their overall fitness, co-ordination and balance, without necessarily sparring in a boxing ring.

The modern-day version of this training principle came from a mid-80s American demand for fresh training techniques and ideas. Boxing gyms became populated with white-collar workers punching off the stress of Wall Street and Madison Avenue.

Such interest was soon picked up by club owners, and they adapted their own version of boxing training into a class format which turned out to be the best concept to come into the fitness market for many years.

Well, guess what? It’s hit Mullingar, and every Thursday from 8-9pm at the Parish Community Centre the general public are punching focus pads and punch bags, skipping ropes, and working out with medicine balls and the like, to great music and at a pace that suits them. The workouts suit beginner to advanced, both male and female, with a focus on fun. You don’t even have to book in advance, just come along and pay as you go.
