Ballinasloe Cancer Support Centre elects new Chairperson

The Ballinasloe Cancer Support Centre has elected Mr. Jackie Brien to fulfil the role of committee Chairperson.

Mr. Brien, who has been involved with the Centre since its inception, brings considerable managerial experience and knowledge to his recently appointed role.

Upon his election, Mr. Brien paid tribute to the Cancer Support Centre founder, Mr. John Kilcommins, and thanked him for researching the need for a facility of such importance in the town of Ballinasloe and establishing a committee and company to meet that need, a pioneering initiative at the time of its inception in 2009.

The Centre now provides services like a drop-in centre, bereavement counselling, cancer care massage, reflexology and many more complimentary therapies to cancer patients and their families.

The Ballinasloe Cancer Support Centre is affiliated to the Irish Cancer Society and operates within its guidelines. It is now in the process of moving to a ground floor premises which will be wheelchair accessible.

Mr. Kilcommins thanked the new Chairperson, the committee members, the volunteers, and the therapists for giving their time, energy and expertise over the last ten years. In that time, they have tended caringly for the needs of many people in the town and surrounding areas.

He was very grateful for their commitment, dedication, loyalty and sense of service to the community and wished them well for the future

“I step down from my role as Chairperson knowing the Centre is in safe hands with a committed and caring team at the helm,” Mr. Kilcommins stated.

The Ballinasloe Cancer Support Centre is open three days a week but will be extending its hours when it moves to the new premises in Main Street in the coming months.
