Backstage Group at The Snug Bar returns with hilarious comedy play

Audiences are in for a night of side-splitting laughter when 'Promises, Promises' hits the stage on Tuesday, September 17.

'Promises Promises' is a comedic story of two widows, mother and daughter, both striving to cope with their own complicated situation - Winifred with the unwanted advances of Peadar the egotistical bachelor farmer and Rosaleen, her mother, with the strange side effects of her new medication which drive her man-mad and make her do and say the most outrageous things.

Peadar and Rosaleen despise each other which causes mayhem for Winifred as she tries to keep the peace. The story comes to a head when Rosaleen accepts a place in the local day care centre. Audiences will be screaming with laughter when they see the antics this lady gets up to behind her daughter's back.

Peadar McGreevy is excellently played by Paddy Broder, a native of Moate, who had audiences crying with laughter when he played Paddy the painter in 'Catch Me If You Can'. Audiences will also be familiar with Seamus McKenna who played Daddy in 'Catch Me If You Can' and brilliantly plays Peadar's slimy dad, Mickaleen McGreavy in this play. Winifred O’Grady is played by Keesha North, a superb up and coming young talent and the priest is played by her own father, Gerry North, an excellent actor and also a native of Moate. Winifred's mother is hilariously played by none other than the playwright herself, Margaret McKenna Mullan.

Backstage takes place in the newly refurbished function room in The Snug Bar. The function room is transformed into a theatre midweek to host the plays and returns to a function room at the weekend for private parties.

'Promises Promises' will take place every Tuesday and Wednesday evening at 8pm until October 23. Tickets are €10 and can be purchased at The Snug Bar or reserved by calling 090 6490370. Booking in advance is essential.

Backstage is a great night out and some groups make a night of it by coming in before the show to share a pizza and a glass of wine.
