Local Fine Gael Councillor hosts Brexit meeting with European representative

Cathoirleach of Westmeath County Council and Athlone Municipal District incumbent, Cllr. John Dolan, hosted a meeting in Athlone on Friday last with the Vice President of the European Parliament, Mairead McGuinness, to discuss Brexit and in particular its effect on the Irish agriculture industry.

“Mairead and I had a long discussion on the likely damage that Brexit could have on Irish agriculture and what measures the EU and the Irish Government has planned and in place in order to protect the farming industry. I stressed the utmost importance of possible financial support post Brexit and Mairead assured me that both the Irish Government and the EU would protect the farmers in any way they can. We also discussed the upcoming CAP negations.

“Weare so lucky to have a representative of the calibre of Mairead McGuiness who listens to our opinions and can relay them directly to the EU decision makers,” Cllr. Dolan noted.
