LWETB invites applications for substantial local youth club grants

Longford and Westmeath Education and Training Board (LWETB ) has announced that funding of over €52,000 is currently available to voluntary youth clubs and groups in the region.

The Local Youth Club Grant Scheme supports activities at a local level by providing grants towards the cost of running youth clubs and groups and is jointly funded by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs and the National Lottery. The primary focus of the scheme is to assist volunteer led youth clubs that provide a programme of youth work activities for young people.

Maria Fox, Youth Officer with LWETB underlined the value of the scheme for youth clubs in the region.

“We are delighted to administer this scheme. Every week hundreds of young people aged between 10 and 21 will benefit directly from this funding. The Local Youth Club Grant Scheme is the main source of funding available to volunteer led youth clubs to enable them to provide a range of educational and recreational activities,” Maria commented.

Dr. Christy Duffy, Chief Executive of LWETB also welcomed the funding.

“The funding recognises the value of the work undertaken by volunteer led youth clubs throughout the region. Tribute needs to be paid to the commitment and dedication of the volunteer leaders in supporting young people’s activities in our local communities. The work of these clubs has such a positive impact on young people’s lives. I encourage voluntary youth clubs to apply for funding under the scheme to benefit young people, volunteers and communities locally,” Dr. Duffy remarked.

Further details of the scheme are available on www.lwetb.ie or by contacting the Youth Service Unit on 044-9348389. Applicants should note that 75 percent of the club/group members should be between the ages of 10 and 21 in order to be eligible for funding under the Scheme and that the Scheme is not open to sports groups.

The closing date for receipt of fully completed application forms by LWETB is Friday, March 29, at 12pm.
