Athlone to benefit from major Eir investment funds

Residents and businesses within Athlone are to benefit from a major broadband investment by Eir as the town is included in the company’s plans to bring speeds of up to 10,000mbps to the growth centre over the next four years.

The investment, which will total €1.4bn when concluded, has been welcomed by local Deputy, Denis Naughten TD.

“Local towns within my constituency are set to benefit majorily from this investment over the next few years, in particular Athlone, Monksland and Ballinasloe.

“This will ensure that the local businesses in these towns are future proofed for broadband needs for generations to come,” the Deputy commented.

The Deputy noted that this announcement would encourage rival broadband companies to commence thoughts of relevant investment also.

“Not only is this investment a boost to local towns but I believe it will spur on other broadband companies to build fibre networks in these towns also.

“The new investment plan by Eir will start as soon as it has completed the build out of rural broadband to 4,600 homes and businesses across the Roscommon and Galway areas, which will be completed by June of this year,” Deputy Naughten concluded/
