Extra storm funding allocated for Westmeath’s large road network

Longford/Westmeath TD and Minister for State, Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran, has announced that he has secured additional funding for Westmeath to help address the effects of last winter’s storms and the lengthy dry spell over the summer on the county’s roads network.

As part of a Special Maintenance Grant to repair roads damaged as result of Storm Ophelia, Storm Emma and the lengthy dry spell during the summer, it was previously announced that Westmeath would receive €334,000.

Minister Moran has now revealed that the county is to receive an extra €365,000 in funding, bringing the total amount to almost €700k.

“I was a little disappointed with the initial announcement of €334,000 considering that Westmeath was one of the worse hit counties during Storm Ophelia and was anxious to increase the funding allocated. I had several meetings with the Transport Minister Shane Ross and his senior officials to try and up the allocation and following our consultations, I am delighted to announce that I have secured an extra €365,000,” Deputy Moran enthused.
