Bower boarding school goes up for sale

Our Lady’s Bower convent and boarding school, which sites on seven acres, has gone up for sale.

The last boarders at the Bower left in June and the site is now for sale for €650,000.

The agent for the 50,000 sq ft building and grounds, GVA Donal O Buachalla in Dublin, has just launched a marketing campaign to sell the site.

The facility had been run by the La Sainte Union order of nuns who decided to close the boarding school due to a decline in numbers. The adjoining day school is not affected by the sale.

The Gothic revival-style, H-shaped convent and boarding school with an imposing limestone façade was built in 1889. One of its distinctive features is its copper spire. The original building was extended in the 1960s to provide improved dormitory facilities for the students.

Suggestions for use of the properties include: student housing, educational facilities, hotel, and even leisure purposes.
