Moate library is to be settling into its new location at Moate Courthouse by the end of November this year.
County manager Barry Kehoe announced at Monday’s meeting of Westmeath County Council that the contractor for the renovation of the old courthouse will be on site within the next two months, with works to be complete by the end of November.
The council hopes to provide €250,000 in funding for the project in 2014, under its capital programme.
Cllr John Dolan said he was delighted to see money coming through for the renovation of the courthouse, while Cllr Tom Allen also welcomed the news.
Westmeath County Council announced last July that the old courthouse building, which is owned by the council and on the Register of Protected Structures, is to be renovated to house Moate library.
The building also houses Moate Museum and Moate Boxing Club, neither of which will be affected by the introduction of the library.
Externally, the council intends to install a disabled ramp and pave the area to the front of the building to create a civic space.
