Man charged with failing to comply with garda

A Mullingar man who failed to leave Oliver Plunkett St on the advice of Gardaí has been fined €250 for drunkenness.

Kenneth Matthews was arrested at 1am on December 28, 2009. He was drunk and failed to leave the area when asked. He was also refused entry into a pub.

The 33-year-old has previous road traffic convictions and one for possession of drugs.

Mr Louis Kiernan said it was some time since his client had been in trouble and that the separated father of four accepted that he “should know better”.

“Is he still dabbling in drugs?” asked the judge.

“He learned his lesson regarding that some time ago,” replied Mr Kiernan, adding that his client wouldn’t have money for drugs.

A charge of failing to comply with garda directions was taken into consideration.
