Spanish inspiration for Mullingar’s Aisling

It’s Barcelona calling for one Mullingar artist attending a week-long course organised by the most famous photography agency in the world.

Aisling Muller says she’s delighted and excited to have been chosen by Magnum Photos to participate in their prestigious course in the Spanish city.

Muller won the place on the basis of a portfolio of ten images which she submitted to Magnum and is already enjoying the intense workshop experience which started on Tuesday.

“It’s a great opportunity to meet different people from all over the world,” she says and describes the course as exciting and “really good”.

The Workshop Barcelona is a unique experience for photographers and is led by six leading Magnum photographers. Muller is working in an intimate group of only 12 students under Chris Steele-Perkins.

Having the opportunity to build a new body of work under a knowledgeable and experienced practitioner drew Muller to the course.

Each participant will have the opportunity to shoot, polish, publish and show their work as well as gain valuable expertise.

The Magnum Workshop Barcelona is organised in collaboration with Centre de Fotografia Documental de Barcelona and held across two of the city’s pinnacle cultural venues, the Centre de Cultura Contemporania de Barcelona (CCCB ) and the Institut D’Estudis Fotográfics de Catalunya.

Speaking to the Advertiser from Barcelona on Wednesday, Muller said she was finding her feet, but relishing the intense course which features daily reviews, group critiques, mentoring, and editing sessions.

Magnum Photos runs courses across the world, and was founded shortly after World War II by some of the world’s most iconic photographers, including the legendary Henri Cartier Bresson.
