Top sides move clear in Masters League

Fri, Dec 15, 2017

Ballina Town moved clear at the top of the Divison One table this week with a victory against Fahy Rovers while Manulla had the night off.

Westport United got their season back to winning ways in the night’s first game, moving off the foot of the table at the same time with a 7-3 win over Straide & Foxford United. A strong second-half from the multiple time champions ensured they picked up all three points and kept Straide’s poor run of form going. A David Cameron hat-trick and doubles from Vinny O’Malley and Anthony McCrea saw Westport pick up the win, while Micheal Smyth, Brian Joyce, and Brendan McHugh hit the net for S&F.

Celtic go back to the top in Masters League

Fri, Nov 17, 2017

Castlebar Celtic returned to top spot in the Masters League division one on Wednesday night last following a dominant win over Fahy Rovers with Manulla and Ballina also impressing in victory. Manulla opened the evening still smarting from their round three defeat to Srtaide & Foxford United and took their anger out on Ballyhaunis Town. Five goals for Dessie Campbell, a hat-trick from Dermot McNicholas, including a brilliantly executed chip from the edge of the penalty area, and a further goal from Roger Clarke saw the blues run out 9-1 winners. Celtic stay top after round two of Masters League

Fri, Nov 03, 2017

Castlebar Celtic continue to top the Mayo League Masters Division One table after week two of the competition, despite having a bye in the latest round of action. Wins for Fahy Rovers, Ballyhaunis Town, and Manulla saw them all pick up their first points of the season but without the scoring difference to knock Celtic off top spot.

Fahy picked up their first win, and came out on the right side of a tight result, this week with a 4-3 victory over Straide and Foxford United. Two goals from Colin Napier were the catalyst for the west Mayo side while Sean McGreal and Sean O’Connor also hit the net. S&F pushed hard to get themselves back on level terms towards the end of an end to end game but despite goals from Declan Smyth, Brendan McHugh and Michael Prendergast they could not get a leveller.

Roscommon see off Mayo League on penalties

Fri, Nov 03, 2017

The Roscommon League squeezed into the next round of the Oscar Traynor trophy when they saw off the Mayo League following a penalty shoot-out last Sunday afternoon in Lecarrow. The hosts opened the scoring late in the opening half, but the lead was short-lived as Mayo soon grabbed an equaliser. There were no further goals in the second half or in extra time, so the lottery of penalty kicks was required, and where Philip Coffey’s men held their nerve.

The first-half was slow to come to life, with neither team coming close to opening the scoring. Both goals arrived in the closing stages of the half after Mike Lee from St Peters had earlier missed a good chance for Roscommon.

Manulla still lead the way as season passes half way point

Fri, Jun 16, 2017

Last weekend's round of action in the Elverys Sports Super League saw the top division reach the half way point with Manulla still holding on to their lead at the top of the table, they sit two points in front of Westport United, with both Castlebar Celtic and Straide and Foxford United three points further back, making for what looks to be an exciting second half at the top of the table. At the bottom of the table there are three sides separated by just three points, with Achill Rovers, Ballyheane, and Glenhest all battling it out to avoid the drop at this stage, but a run of form from any of those sides could see those placed above the bottom three dragged into the dogfight at the bottom.
