Five hundred performers set to join in MMTradfest in Ballina

More than 500 Irish musicians, singers, and dancers are expected to take over the numerous venues in Ballina and its surrounding towns for the six day Mayo Manchester Tradfest. The week-long family friendly festival will feature a whole host of award winning performers involved in 10 key events and a further 60 fringe events, and is expected to attract some 50,000 visitors. The unique celebration featuring performers from Mayo and Manchester is launched on Friday July 29 with a special live two hour radio broadcast by Midwest Radio from Bar Square in Ballina. The free event will feature a host of VIPs and performers and runs from 6pm to 8pm.

Mick O’Dea presents The Foggy Dew

Octagon Quilters twenty fifth anniversary exhibition at Custom House Studios

Custom House Studios will continue to host Silver Threads, an exhibition celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Octagon Quilters Group in Westport, every day until July 24.

Octagon Quilters began in 1996 when Patricia O’Dowda came to Westport from Wales. She held her first exhibition in Westport Town Hall where she met Madeleine Jordan and from there Octagon Quilters began with eight members, some of whom are still members today. Initially meeting in the Town Hall, the group has grown to 25 members and now meets in the Quay Community Centre every Tuesday from 10am to 1pm from September to June.

Custom House Studios at Westport Quay is now inviting submissions for the use of studios, starting in August, 2016.

Applications should be sent by email and include letters of interest, CVs, documentation of work, and a maximum of 10 images in one attached file in PDF format; JPGS or other image formats will not be accepted. Applications can be sent to customhouse@eircom.net.
