One in four Irish workers find it hard to switch off on holidays

A new survey from recruitment website www.irishjobs.ie has found that 27 per cent of Irish workers admitted to checking their work emails while on holidays. The survey also revealed that six per cent of workers said they would check work texts while away, and five per cent said they would ring the office while on annual leave.

Council for the West worried about numbers moving to Dublin

The Council for the West, which campaigns on socioeconomic issues in the west of Ireland, has expressed its concern about the number of people who will be living in the greater Dublin area in the future and the effect it will have on the west of Ireland. The organisation has called on the Government to examine how sensible it is for the country to have 2.5 million people living within the greater Dublin area within the next 15 years. Commenting on recent research by urban economist Brian Hughes, a member of the Government’s own expert group on population projections, which shows that by around 2070 more than half of Ireland’s population will be living in the greater Dublin area, the council said the trend was for more urbanisation, but it questioned whether a ‘city state’ is the best or only policy to be pursued willy-nilly.

The site will provide background information on how the national maximum taxi fare works, key points to consider when making a submission, and six key questions that you must complete when making your submission.

Indeed, the association of Castlebar as a stop-off point for the rich and famous is now so ingrained that it would not surprise us if Kylie or Beyonce made an appearance. Why the fuss?

Bord na Mona reports €23 million profit

Bord na Móna bucked the trend of loss-making businesses when it announced its annual results this week, showing operating profits of €23 million compared to €23.8 million for 2009. The company, which employs some 2,000 staff nationwide and which closed its peat burning plant in Bellacorick in favour of wind energy development in recent years has now highlighted the development in Belmullet of the biggest onshore windfarm in Ireland as one of the highlights of its ongoing expansion plans.
