A night to remember at Custom House Studios

The Custom House Studios located at the Quay in Westport will be embracing Culture Night which takes place around the country on Friday September 16. Over the course of the night, there will be eight different events taking place in the Custom House Studio where all strands of culture will be celebrated.

At 6.30pm, Banna Píob Chuan Modh who were established in October 2010 with a view to setting up a pipe band in the Clew Bay Area will kick things off. From 6pm to 10pm the studio's gallery will be open and at 7pm there will be a gallery talk and painting demo by artist Deirdre Walsh, whose exhibition Silent Notes is currently running in the studio. 

Also on show in the gallery is a photographic exhibition by artist Lynda Huxely of her photos of Lough Carra which will run from 6pm to 10pm. At 8pm Achill singer-songwriter Graham Sweeney will unleash his distinctive sound comprising traditional guitar playing, percussive finger-tapping, and rhythmic vocal melodies. At 8.40pm, Bryan Duffy's documentary film Sumud, Everyday Resistance, which examines life under Israeli military occupation in the West Bank through the stories of Palestinian women, will be screened.

At 9pm, James Kilbane will be on hand to entertain with his faith based Christian country, gospel music which has seen him tour all over the world and release numerous albums. There will also be two open studios for you to try out on the night, an open printmaking studio will be facilitated by Caroline Masterson and Grainne O'Reilly, and a workshop led by Breda Burns where guests are invited to make art work from a choice of materials and mediums will both run from 6pm to 9pm on the night.
