RoolaBoola is back and better than ever

RoolaBoola, the Linenhall’s annual children’s arts festival, is back for the October Bank Holiday weekend and into the following week, with another brilliant programme of shows, workshops and more for ages two to 12 years and their families.

And the secret’s out. As part of this year’s RoolaBoola, award-winning children’s theatre company Cahoots NI will be presenting a delightful new theatrical adventure for young audiences. Shh! We have a Plan is based on the hugely popular Chris Haughton book of the same name. It is a funny, engaging, and poignant tale that follows the journey of three madcap characters who set out to capture a beautiful bird that they have spotted on an island. It seems a very simple quest but the quest becomes an obsession and the obsession becomes the absurd. Where will it all end? Follow the trio on their extraordinary escapades and find out whether their plans will work.

Cahoots NI director Paul Bosco McEneaney, who also adapted this story book for the stage, said: “We are thrilled to bring our new adventure to young audiences and their families this autumn. Cahoots NI has been working with acclaimed children’s author Chris Haughton for over a year on this project. We have created a magical theatre experience that tells the story of an elusive and magical bird. The story looks at how kindness may achieve more than greed and selfishness, and, as the play goes on, the characters learn to love and look after nature.”

Chris Haughton enthuses about the theatrical version of his book. “I am extremely excited to be working on this project with Cahoots NI. I had seen their production of Egg and absolutely loved it. I think their approach on that show fits incredibly well with my book and so was very excited to be working together with them. We are also working with one of my favourite animation studios, Animade, to produce some really beautifully animated sequences and special effects. I can’t wait to see it all together.”

Prepare to be enchanted and amazed by this unique and engaging production featuring magic, music, puppetry and lots, lots more in Shh! We have a Plan on Sunday, October 25, with shows at 12.30pm and 3.00pm. RoolaBoola Children’s Arts Festival runs at the Linenhall over the Bank Holiday weekend from October 24 to 26, and into the following week.
