Open weeks in full swing

Balla

In the Balla Golf Club classic competition last weekend the team of Gus Heraty, Nora Heraty, Aodan MacSuibne, and Aine MacSuibhne were the winners with a score of 120, Breege Walsh’s team finished second with Breege Jennings’ team finishing in third place. The all men’s team Dermot MacMahon, Aodan MacSuibhne, Bob Leggett, and Adrian O’Connell were the gents’ winners with a score of 113. The all ladies’ winning team was made up of Geraldine O’Malley, Marie Flanagan, Kitty O’Connor, and Carmel Henry who scored 118.

Ballina

The Trevor Morrow singles competition was won by David Molloy with a score of 37pts, James Hogan finished in second place, with Charles Doherty finishing in third place. The open Wednesday night event was won by Nicky McLoughlin, with Michael O’Malley in second place. Open week runs until this coming Sunday, August 10, there will be a gents’ and ladies’ 18 hole singles competition each day.

Ballyhaunis

The captain’s prize for ladies was won by Kathleen Fanning with a score of 66 nett, she finished ahead of Kung Fanning in second place, with Niamh Henry winning the gross prize and Margaret Dyer finishing in third place. The category one win went to Marietta Potgieter, with other category wins going to Mary Morris, Breege Folliard, Kay Curley, and Anne Walshe.

Claremorris

Padraig Mannion was the winner of the Maxwells/Old Arch sponsored competition with a score of 40pts, Kevin Heneghan finished in second place, with Gary O’Toole taking the ‘class win’. Yvonne Oldham won the ladies’ 18-hole competition and Margaret Flannery the ladies’ nine-hole win.

Mulranny

Names are being taken for the President’s Day (Freddie Devanney ) which will take place on Sunday week, August 17. Next weekend’s stableford competition is sponsored by Kellys Butchers, Newport. The nine hole scrambles will continue each Friday for the month of August, commencing at 6pm. Sunday August 10 is the deadline for completing first round matches in the Autumn Cup.

Swinford

Catherine Loftus was the winner of the Lady Captain’s prize with a score of 65 nett, with Aine McDonald in second place, Julie Loftus coming home in third, and Dympna O’Donnell in fourth. The best 36 win went to Mary Flanagan, with Siobhan King winning the past captains’ section.

Westport

The annual Festival of Golf is now in full swing having started on Saturday last. Competitions for ladies and gents continue all week with the final open competitions taking place on Sunday. A members’ meeting will take place on Thursday August 14 at 9pm.
